It is with great sadness that Gloucestershire College is sharing the news that Peter Ironmonger, former Chair of Governors (2004 – 2010), committed board member (1994 – 2010) and Honorary Vice President, passed away on 13 June 2016 following a short period of illness.

Peter was a man of vision, who gently but firmly steered the College through times of change, including campus relocation, school partnership developments and funding challenges; always keeping the needs of individuals at the heart of the College and its Board of Governors.

Matthew Burgess, Gloucestershire College Principal, said: “I was fortunate to work with, and learn from, Peter over a number of years, and we are grateful for the extraordinary energy and time that Peter committed to the College. He was both approachable and wise, and had warmth of character and genuine interest in those around him. He will be much missed by myself and colleagues across the College. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”

Graham Ripley, current Chair of Governors, said that Peter was a dear personal friend as well as a respected colleague: “His contribution to the success of the College is inestimable and continuing. Along with all those at Gloucestershire College who were privileged to have known him, the thoughts and prayers of all College Governors past and present go out to his wife Jenny and son Philip.”
