GC House Blog 8. Estate agents, next investment and a visit from the HSE
The recent half term saw more activity than expected in the GC House, thanks to gift voucher incentives being offered to students to help out during their free time! One Level 2 Plumbing student, 17-year-old Jamie Smith from Newent, gave up two days to help fit the new white and shiny toilet and sink – thanks Jamie!
Our plastering students have now finished one of the upstairs bedrooms, and the kitchen was delivered and installation started on Friday. Project Manager Rachael Capener said: “It’s so exciting to see our students using their skills to carry out installations inside the house, after it being a shell for so long!”
Outside, the scaffolding has come down at the rear and the repointing and guttering is now complete. Check out the pictures in the gallery below to see the finished result.
In other news, a local estate agent based in Newent, TwoCan, visited last week to review progress and discuss timescales and prices for the sale of the property. This was very encouraging and promising at this stage of the project.
We have also been viewing other local properties for our next investment for students, which we intend to begin in the next academic year. Do let us know if you know of any suitable renovation properties by commenting below.
The highlight of the week, however, was the visit from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the national independent watchdog for work-related health, safety and illness which offers advice, guidance, tools, legislation and publications. They seemed impressed by our set-up and how we are supporting students to develop and learn skills – fantastic news!
Check back next week for the next update, and don’t forget to share your views by commenting below. How do you think the students are getting on so far? Any words of wisdom for them? Are you a local employer wanting to get involved in this or the next project? Let us know!
