For the very first time, Gloucestershire College is hosting an Apprenticeship Information Evening at its Gloucester Campus, and inviting young people and their parents to discover how apprenticeships work, as well as the careers they can lead to.

Taking place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 20 April, the event aims to inform young people who are not quite sure what they want to do after their GCSEs or A Levels about the types of apprenticeships available, from IT, construction and engineering, to hairdressing, care and hospitality.

Head of Work Based Learning, Julie Tegg, will deliver short talks throughout the evening, and there will also be the opportunity to meet employers who are recruiting apprentices and talk to current GC apprentices about their experiences.

Employers including Poeton, LPC Painting Limited, Flexicare, The Orchard Trust, All Fleet Services, the Isaac Partnership and more will be there on the night to talk about the types of apprenticeship vacancies they offer.

There will also be the chance to discover more about higher apprenticeships, which include qualifications such as HNDs, HNCs and foundation degrees, and apply for current apprenticeship vacancies on the night.

Julie Tegg said: “We are delighted to be hosting our first information evening dedicated to apprenticeships, and hope that lots of young people and their parents take advantage of the chance to discover more about what GC has to offer. There will be the opportunity to speak to employers about their vacancies and make that all-important good first impression, as well as some of our current apprentices about their experiences and successes.

“Throughout the evening I will deliver short talks introducing apprenticeships and how they work at GC, to ensure that visitors have all the facts to help them make the right choice; especially if they are unsure about what route they want to take after their exams.

“The government has pledged to deliver three million apprenticeships by 2020, and with the wide range currently available to GC, there’s never been a better time to apply for an apprenticeship and get your foot on the ladder to a lifelong career.”

Alongside stands covering all apprenticeship areas offered at GC, the Traineeships Team, GC Business Hub, Study Support and Advice Teams will all be there on the night to provide further information and help answer any questions visitors may have.

All are welcome at the Apprenticeship Information Evening, including parents and current GC students.
