NEW Art and Design Foundation Diploma available in Cheltenham
Gloucestershire College is delighted to be offering the Art and Design Foundation Diploma at Cheltenham Campus from September 2016, giving creative students an opportunity to gain a valuable qualification as they develop a variety of skills in brand new workshops being built this summer.
Endorsed by world-famous artist and former student, Dr PJ Crook, the intensive one-year, post A Level course is geared towards the preparation of a portfolio of work to support students’ applications to university or employment.
The new light, airy and spacious studio dedicated to the Art and Design Foundation Diploma will feature digital art suites, a fashion room, print room, life drawing studio and gallery to display student work. It will share the campus with the popular Cheltenham Fashion Academy, enabling students studying art and fashion courses to share live project briefs and assignments.
The practical side of study will be supported by theory units on the history of art and design, and students will explore a wide range of disciplines, including drawing, fine art, painting, sculpture, fashion textiles, graphic design, illustration, printmaking, contextual studies and photography, before choosing to specialise in one particular area.
With a long history of delivering successful arts and media courses, and an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ visual arts department, the College has connections with industry renowned and local artists. And with Cheltenham being considered as the cultural centre for the Cotswolds, with excellent transport links to Gloucester, Tewkesbury and the surrounding areas, the campus is ideally placed to deliver the diploma.
PJ Crook said: “I’m so excited to hear that Gloucestershire College are going to offer a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design in Cheltenham, where it has been much missed by schools and would-be foundation students in the region.
“Gloucestershire College’s Art and Design Foundation Diploma is excellent, and I have often bumped into ex-foundation students studying for art degrees at the university who say how grateful they were for the encouragement and support they gained from the College.”
Jane Jenkins, Head of School for Arts and Media said: “We are very excited to be offering the Art and Design Foundation Diploma in Cheltenham this year. This post A Level course provides students with the opportunity to explore the many areas of art and design before choosing an area in which to specialise; and is invaluable in preparing students for progressing to an advanced course at university – or in gaining employment.

The course is accepting applications now. Those interested in applying must be at least 18 years old when the course starts in September, and have achieved at least two A Levels or an equivalent qualification in a creative subject.
