Kick start a rewarding career in care
Gloucestershire College is on the hunt for 12 Patient Transport Service (PTS) Care Assistant Apprentices to work at Gloucester-based Arriva Transport Solutions, the specialist transport company which offers bespoke services across the health and social care sectors.
Offering the ideal ‘foot in the door’ to a rewarding career in care, the College is looking for enthusiastic and confident individuals who have genuine passion for the care industry to deliver a professional and effective service to patients who require transport in the local community.
As part of their role, the successful apprentices will be responsible for transporting patients between their homes, hospitals or local clinics and their designated destinations, and providing non-emergency patients with first aid and assistance in walking – whilst ensuring their safety and wellbeing is the number one priority at all times.
Alongside, the apprentices will study for their Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults), and Functional Skills in English and Mathematics at Gloucestershire College, as well as receive training in Employee Rights and Responsibilities, and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
In return, the apprentices can expect to earn £187.50 per week, for a full-time 37.5 hour variable shift, enjoy 28 days holiday and have the opportunity to advance to team leader and management positions in the future.
Gloucestershire College Vice Principal, Peter White, said: “We’re delighted to form a new partnership with Arriva Transport Solutions to help train their future workforce.
“There’s never been a better time to launch a career in the care industry. GFirst LEP research found it to be Gloucestershire’s largest employment sector, with a 34% increase in the number of jobs available predicted by 2025.
“Not only will these 12 apprentices earn a wage while they study for their qualifications, but they will benefit from learning from industry-experienced lecturers and have access to the excellent facilities we have at Gloucestershire College, including opportunities to develop the wider skills employers really value.”
Neil Berry, HR Business Partner, added: “This exciting new partnership provides Arriva Transport Solutions with the chance to introduce apprentices to a career in care; giving them vital training and opportunities to take the first step in this challenging career, whilst we gain enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in learning and development.”
