Trade short courses and hairdressing masterclasses launching at GC
In response to local demand, Gloucestershire College is launching a new series of GC Express short courses and masterclasses to offer people an opportunity to improve their expertise and skills, and get qualified for careers the catering, construction and hairdressing industries, or even retrain for a new one.
Brand new for 2015 are the one-day Hairdressing Industry Masterclasses aimed at professionals who have accomplished the basics and are looking to improve certain techniques. Ranging in price from £100 to £395 each, the classes will either feature a special guest artist or be taught by lecturers who have extensive industry experience.
Already confirmed is award-winning hairdresser and celebrity favourite Jamie Stevens, who will lead the Barbering Masterclass on Monday 16 November and the Fashion Trends Cutting Masterclass on Monday 1 February 2016.
Other masterclasses include: Bridal Hair; Colouring; Aspire to Salon Management; Customer Service for the Hair and Beauty Salon; and Retailing for the Hair and Beauty Salon.
GC Express makes a welcome return this year too; a series of trade-specific short courses through which students can get qualified in 12 to 24 weeks, starting between September and January.
Options include: Fast Track to Chef Skills; Bricklaying; Painting and Decorating; Plastering; Site Carpentry; Plumbing and Heating Intensive; Barbering; and Hairdressing.
Vice Principal Peter White said: “In response to the local issue of addressing skills shortages, Gloucestershire College is delighted to be able to offer GC Express courses once again in the construction and building services, hairdressing and catering industries. These courses would usually take one year to complete but are compressed into 12 or 24 weeks.
“We continue to work closely with local businesses to find out what they require in terms of skills and staff, and ensure we offer courses to equip students with the skills and qualifications they need to thrive in employment.”
