In response to increasing local demand, Cheltenham Fashion Academy at Gloucestershire College will be offering an exciting Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fashion and Textiles from September, giving students aiming for a career in the thriving fashion industry a chance to establish a strong grounding in design theory and technique.

The Level 5 qualification is equivalent to the first two years of a university degree and, upon successful completion, will enable students to progress straight into a job in industry, as a Designer or Photographer for example, or ‘top up’ with a third year at university to gain a Bachelor’s Degree.

HNDs are part vocational, part professional qualifications studied full-time for two years, which prepare students for careers in specific industries. Not only are HNDs highly valued by employers but they can also count towards membership of professional bodies.

The industry-focused Fashion and Textiles HND at Cheltenham Fashion Academy will see students build skills in disciplines such as print, textiles, visual merchandising, garment construction, fashion photography, working with industry specialists, traditional and contemporary skills, fashion design, trend setting and studio-based projects, as well as develop a professional portfolio that employers will love.

Students will get to work out of the Academy’s brightly lit, spacious studio spaces, complete with industry-standard sewing machines, software and all the support and encouragement they need to work creatively and ultimately succeed in this competitive business.

As well as excellent success rates, Cheltenham Fashion Academy has strong links with high profile businesses and events, including Cheltenham Fashion Week, Gloucester Style Festival and milliner Lisa von Hallwyl, meaning Fashion and Textiles HND students will benefit from working on exciting live projects throughout their time at the College.

Fashion Course Leader, Rachel Johnson, said: "I am thrilled to be developing fashion opportunities at Gloucestershire College with this new HE course starting in September.

"We have excellent facilities coupled with specialist staff and industry links that will provide a dynamic and exciting progression route for existing and new students. The students will be nurtured in a professional studio environment where they can develop the necessary skills to further their careers and education."
