GC sponsors #CotswoldEMI Apprentice of the Year Award

20 February 2015

Gloucestershire College is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the Apprentice of the Year prize in the inaugural Cotswold Life EMI Awards 2015, and is calling all of its talented engineering apprentices and employer partners to enter.

Launched by Cotswold Life Business and Professional, the Engineering, Manufacturing and Innovation Awards (EMI) will showcase and champion the Cotswolds’ established, successful and growing manufacturing sector; an industry which the College is dedicated to supporting.

Gloucestershire College is the leading provider of apprenticeships in the county, with 989 training at present, including nearly 100 in the engineering sector. The Apprentice of the Year category celebrates the outstanding contribution of an apprentice working in the design and prototype, manufacturing or engineering sector, as well as exceptional progress in their skills development and studies.

Judges will be looking for proof of hard work and commitment to the apprentices’ personal development and progression through learning.

Brian Fowler, Acting Head of School for Engineering, said: “The Cotswold Life EMI Awards are a wonderful way to promote excellence and demonstrate the strength of the sector in terms of our people, products and services. Showcasing the very best will help demonstrate the types of opportunities available, particularly to young people thinking of choosing it as a career.

“An engineering apprenticeship provides you with a fantastic opportunity to work with new technologies and at the same time you ‘earn as you learn’. The UK requires engineers across disciplines such as electronics, mechanical, construction and medical – it is our future and you will become a highly skilled professional who will help shape the world.”

The EMI Awards officially launch at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester on Thursday 5 March, when online nominations officially open for all 12 categories.

These include Manufacturer of the Year; CEO of the Year; Employee of the Year; Apprentice of the Year; the Award for Educational Partnership; Best Research and Development Project; Sustainable Manufacturing Award; Technology Innovation of the Year Award; Best Start-Up Company; Manufacturing Genius; Exporter of the Year; and Smart Product Award.

Entries close on Monday 25 May, after which a shortlist will be selected and the good, great and entrepreneurial from across the region attend the black-tie awards ceremony at Cheltenham Town Hall on Thursday 17 September.

We hope that many of our accomplished engineering apprentices at all levels, and their employers, will get their entries in via the online nomination form, and look forward to celebrating their achievements at the first Cotswold Life EMI Awards 2015.
