In response to customer demand, Gloucestershire College is launching a series of part-time and short skills development courses in the New Year, giving people the opportunity to advance their expertise in an area of interest or even retrain for a new career.

Brand new for 2015 is GC DIY, aimed at enthusiasts with little or no experience. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to tile the bathroom or even fit your own kitchen, there are 11 courses on offer; each delivered over five days in March 2015 – with weekday and weekend options available.

The courses, costing between £150 and £350 each, include General Home Maintenance and Repairs; Introduction to Tiling; Tiling Under Floor Heating and Wet Rooms; Introduction to Plastering; Plastering Advanced; Introduction to Painting and Decorating; Wallpapering; Introduction to Kitchen Fitting; Introduction to Domestic Plumbing; Bricklaying Garden Walls; and Bricklaying Cavity Walls.

Part-time and GC Express courses, meanwhile, span fashion, IT, music, catering, construction and hair and beauty. These begin between January and May 2015 and vary in price.

Creatives can hone their skills in Basic Photography; Introduction to CS Suite; Music Production with Logic Pro; and Traditional Skills in Straw Millinery.

While those looking for a career change can get qualified in 12 to 16 weeks with a popular GC Express course in Plumbing and Heating; Chef Skills; Barbering; Beauty Therapy; or Hairdressing.

Vice Principal Peter White said: “Our customers told us they would like us to run short courses to enable them to enhance their DIY skills, so we are thrilled to be launching GC DIY for the first time in 2015.

“We welcome thousands of part-time and GC Express students at Gloucestershire College each year and look forward to seeing even more in the New Year.”
