Age of the Apprentice campaign launched with the Gloucestershire Echo

10 December 2014

Gloucestershire College is thrilled to be the lead sponsor for the Gloucestershire Echo and Gloucester Citizen’s 2015 Age of the Apprentice campaign, promoting the value of apprenticeships to employers and young people across the county.

The College’s refurbished Food Central Cheltenham Restaurant played host to the breakfast launch in early December, with more than 30 influential business leaders and apprentices attending to celebrate the long-running and successful campaign.

Principal Matthew Burgess said: “It’s great to be kicking off another campaign. Gloucestershire College has always actively campaigned to raise the profile of apprenticeships. It’s a message I know that Gloucestershire businesses are hearing loud and clear.

“The combination of college-based study alongside the experience of working in industry is a delivery model that works, and that’s why we will continue to champion this way of learning.

“This year’s campaign is focusing on the value of apprenticeships. The value to apprentices themselves, the value they bring to the business and the value they deliver for the economy."

The 13-week campaign will highlight success stories of several of Gloucestershire College apprentices, as well as the employers who are convinced of the value of apprenticeships; culminating in National Apprenticeship Week 2015.

Associate campaign sponsors include Messier Bugatti Dowty MRO; Western Power Distribution; Delphi Diesel Systems; and Gloucestershire Engineering Training.

Research shows that for every £1 spent on apprenticeships, the national economy gains £21, and the apprentices themselves are more likely to remain in employment for longer, with higher earnings. In fact, apprentices will earn on average £50 per week more than their peers who do not undertake the workplace training route.

Gloucestershire College has made it even easier for people to search and apply for apprenticeship vacancies in the county, thanks to the launch of a live apprenticeships vacancy page on its website.
