Gloucestershire’s Finest to launch at Food Central Cheltenham Restaurant

17 November 2014

Gloucestershire College’s revamped eatery, Food Central Cheltenham Restaurant, is launching a fabulous new dinner series entitled Gloucestershire’s Finest, which will showcase the talents of some of the top chefs in the region, alongside the industry’s future stars from the College’s Catering and Hospitality School.

The series will officially launch on Monday 24 November with an already sold-out celebration of Cheltenham’s finest chefs; some of whom hold coveted Michelin stars and others who have enjoyed airtime on the small screen. These include David Everitt Matthias from Le Champignon Sauvage, David Kelman from Ellenborough Park, Jon Howe from Lumière and Gareth Fulford from Purslane.

During the formal evening in the College’s fine dining restaurant, up to 40 guests will be served a stunning five-course menu, carefully crafted by the four award-winning chefs, with Jon creating the starter, Gareth the fish course, David Kelman the main event and David Everitt-Matthias dessert.

There will also be a cheese course provided by a local producer, while Jon Howe provides petit fours, The Green Coffee Machine its organic, Fairtrade coffee and The Lucky Onion pairs the perfect wine to each course.

Gareth Crwys-Williams, Head of School for Catering and Hospitality, said: “Some of our best students will be assisting the chefs in the kitchen and serving guests in the restaurant, offering them real-world experience of working in a top restaurant. It’s a tremendous opportunity for them.

“Gloucestershire is punching well above its weight in terms of its produce, chefs and restaurants, and the aim of the Gloucestershire’s Finest series is to inspire the talent of tomorrow, who are honing their craft at the county’s top Chef’s School, whilst offering local food lovers a fine dining experience.”

As well as providing our students with invaluable industry experience, the ticketed dinners will raise funds for a charity very close to the Catering School’s heart, Hospitality Action, which offers a lifeline to people of all ages, working in and retired from the hospitality industry.

Having sold out at lightning speed, the Gloucestershire’s Finest: Cheltenham’s Champions is the first in what looks set to be a hugely popular series at Food Central Cheltenham Restaurant – with future themed dinners already in the pipeline.
