The Forest Apprentice to launch at GC Open Evening

31 October 2014

Gloucestershire College is teaming up with Mitcheldean-based engineering development company, Versarien, to launch The Forest Apprentice 2015 at its upcoming Open Evening.

On Wednesday 12 November 2014, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, the Royal Forest of Dean Campus will be welcoming prospective students and apprentices, and their parents, through its doors to meet current staff and students, and find out about the wide range of courses and fantastic facilities available, as well as The Forest Apprentice competition.

Working in partnership with local employers including the Forest Citizen, The Speech House Hotel, The Warranty Group, Forest Inspiration and SPP Pumps, Gloucestershire College wants to encourage more young people to become apprentices, as well as local businesses in taking on apprentices.

Claire Hanchard, Marketing Manager at Versarien, said: “Versarien has grown from a startup in 2011 and now, including apprentices, employs over 70 staff. We are now searching for new engineering and business administration apprentices from the local community.”

The November Open Evenings at Gloucestershire College’s Cheltenham, Royal Forest of Dean and Gloucester campuses aim to help students make the right choice for next September.

From GCSEs, A Levels and NVQs to BTECs, apprenticeships and even foundation degrees, aspiring students can get advice on a range of course options from the College’s specialist staff, as well as take part in have-a-go activities, tours and much more.

Matt Burgess, Principal of Gloucestershire College, said: ‘We look forward to welcoming potential students and their parents to our Royal Forest of Dean Campus. Whether they are looking to study more vocational subjects to get a head start in their chosen careers, or are simply looking for more freedom and responsibility after school, there will plenty of advice and information available.

“The campus continues to achieve excellent results both academically and pastorally, and celebrated a 100% A Level pass rate for the third year running in 2014.”

Those interested in attending the Forest of Dean Open Evening can pre-register online to skip the queues on the night. Simply visit www.gloscol.ac.uk/openevenings to book a place.
