Junior Summer School

Junior Summer School (12-17)

Why study on the junior summer school?

The Junior Summer School is held at both the Cheltenham and the Gloucester campuses of Gloucestershire College.  Each offers something different: Cheltenham is a lively town in the Cotswolds, known for its numerous festivals and outdoor activities – there’s always something to do! Or Gloucester, with its famous Cathedral (used as a set in the Harry Potter films) and the docks, where tall ships can be seen. Cheltenham and Gloucester are only a few kilometres apart and are connected by frequent bus and train services.  In addition, both are within easy reach of cities such as London, Birmingham, Oxford, Bath, Bristol and Cardiff – so are easily reached from UK ports and airports

The emphasis is on making learning English fun, so students can expect a varied and interesting time during lessons taught by our team of qualified and dedicated teachers. The Gloucester campus offers courses for groups only and the Cheltenham campus offers courses for groups and independent students. The classes, which can be joined at any time and for any length of time, comprise of groups of learners of similar ability. Typically, there is a good mix of nationalities in each class, giving learners the opportunity to make new friends and meet people from around the globe.

  • Morning lessons usually concentrate on developing the students’ knowledge of English through a wide variety of interactive activities: lessons typically involve roleplay or language games in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
  • Afternoon classes offer options such as cooking, sports, animation, art, film workshops, dance, drama…
  • In the evening, various activities are arranged, such as a junior disco or a film.

Getting to Cheltenham and Gloucester

Cheltenham and Gloucester campuses are about two hours travel from London and easy to get to by train, coach, or taxi from major airports.

We are also about an hour from Birmingham.

Both towns have lots of buses and trains so it’s easy to get about and explore.

Safety is a priority to us at Gloucestershire College and we are pleased that Cheltenham has recently been ranked one of the safest towns in the UK for students.

Our students study in safe and caring environments while they are on campus, with our host families and on excursions.
