Preparing for Adulthood Employment courses are available to young people aged 16-24 requiring a moderate to lower level of additional support in order to move into employment.

All courses aim to promote students’ independence, social interaction skills and transferable employability skills, with a view of students securing employment in either the supported or open labour market. Work related activities are part of the Pre-Support Internship course, the will support students increasing their employability skills set with a hope to move onto the Supported Internship programme

The Pre-Support Internship course has been designed to develop and enhance individual’s employability skills through research and practical application during work experience. The programme will specifically support the development of career aspirations, interview preparation for mock or real interviews and where appropriate job applications. The course is intended to lead onto the Supported Internship, continuing their pathway to paid and sustainable employment.

The Supported Internship course is predominately based within an employer setting to enable the development and enhancement of employability skills, potentially leading to paid sustainable employment at the end of the course. Mathematics, English and employability training are crucial elements of the course and are delivered within the College setting. The course has excellent outcomes with 70-80% of each year group gaining paid employment at the end or within three months of completing their course.

Regular review and assessment of students’ progress is a core part of the all of the courses.

The curriculum follows a personalised approach including:

  • Guidance and help with transition into College involving other agencies as required
  • Initial assessment carried out in a supportive manner with student’s needs in mind
  • Additional support available as required to aid learning and wellbeing
  • English and maths are fully embedded into sessions as well as discrete provision
  • Individual personalised goals are negotiated and set with the students
  • Regular pastoral and welfare support is offered
  • Close communication regarding progress is maintained with families/carers/other agencies throughout the year
  • Transition onto another course or out of college is supported and includes other agencies
  • All support arrangements will be assessed during the EHC plan or My Plan + review, Link Experience programme and close liaison with school SENCO.

Students on the Pre-Supported Internship course will have access to work related activities, such as:

  • Leonard Cheshire "Can Do" Programme 5 Steps to Well Being
  • Develop Customer Service training with Holiday Inn, Hatherley Manor and other employers
  • Interview practice with local employers
  • Environmental projects including woodland volunteering, earth hour global celebrations, plastic pollution and sustainability
  • Raising awareness and supporting the local community through Gloucester City Mission and Dementia awareness projects

These opportunities change each academic year depending on the needs of our local employers and community.

  • Students are assessed via our Link Experience programme. Students usually have an EHC plan, My Plan, My Plan+ or have received additional support at school. Supported Internship candidates are usually Entry 2 - Entry 3 in English and maths. Funding eligibility will need to be agreed through a multi-agency EHC plan review.

Foundation Studies courses are designed specifically for young adults aged 16-24, to develop their skills to live independently, access their community or progress to volunteering and employment.

Our courses are tailor made to help students build their confidence, improve social and personal skills, and/or learn independent living skills. Depending on the curriculum pathway, students can be supported by a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Employment Mentor.
