Course Overview

Part Time

This award is an introductory qualification for teaching and learning in the Education and Training Sector.

The Award will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to enable you to plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning sessions across a variety of teaching and training environments which can include work in Further Education colleges and other training providers. There is no minimum teaching practice requirement and whilst it is intended for those in a teaching or training position, it can be undertaken by anyone that wishes to consider themselves for a role in the sector. There is, however, a minimum requirement to undertake a micro-teach as part of the course.

Course delivery:

  • Taught part-time sessions, 10 x 3hrs per week.

Comments from learners:

"Course content was well organised. Lessons were clear and informative and teaching was effective and engaging."

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course and found it very useful in my role and in life in general. Thought provoking."

There are a number of options available at GC to help you pay for your course fees:

  • Setting up a Direct Debit: You’ll be asked for a 20% deposit when you enrol and this can be paid in cash, or by debit or credit card. Course fees must be paid in full by the end of your course so the monthly instalments would be adjusted accordingly e.g. for a one year course you would make 8 payments
  • Support for those that are unemployed and in receipt of benefits: Contact Student Services to find out if this course is eligible for funding and whether you are eligible
  • You must be aged over 19 at the start of the academic year.

Entry to the course is subject to satisfactory completion of an online Professional Course Assessment.

You will need to demonstrate a good standard of English language and ability to work at the required level for this course.

  • The qualification will provide you with the basic skills to plan, teach and assess sessions. To progress further we do offer a PCET/ PGCT in partnership with BCU.

Student Stories

Steven Fisher

“I started by doing an apprenticeship through GC in motor vehicle. I then went on as a technician and was supported by GC to become a lecturer at the college. “I enjoyed being in a group of like-minded people most at the college, which provided lots of conversations about best teaching practices. I learnt a lot and felt very supported. “The course has enabled me to teach in a modern day classroom and have been given a great learning environment. After my course has finished I want to look into management courses so I can progress on to the next level of my career.”
