    Jobsmart is a free service from Gloucestershire College to help and support unemployed people, aged 19 and above, in Gloucestershire return to work. The courses offered by Jobsmart are tutor led and designed to support you back in to work.

     Courses include:

     Computer Confidence for Work-Part 1

    An opportunity for those with little or no computer experience to expand their use of

    Information technology. Topics will include:

    • Understand the basics of computer hardware and software
    • Learn the basics of Word
    • How to format text ; save and print data
    • Explore the internet
    • Set up an email address
    • How to complete an on line form 

    Computer Confidence for Work- Part 2

    If you have completed Part 1 or already have a basic understanding of Information Technology, Part 2 will further develop and expand your skills. See checklist in ‘special notes’ for breakdown of elements covered on the course. Main content will be:

    • Practice and develop skills using Word
    • Introduction to Excel spreadsheets
    • PowerPoint for presentations
    • Basics of Access databases
    • Explore the internet relevant to individual/group work needs

     Confidence for Work

    To build the confidence, resilience and self-awareness of learners in preparing them for social environments, including training, volunteering and paid employment through to experiential based learning and to develop the courage to re-engage in life without fear and anxiety.

     

    Objectives:

    • Claim a more positive identity and stronger sense of self
    • Appreciate goal setting for life change
    • Managing challenges and adversity
    • Learn and understand what contributes to resilience
    • Avoid negativity traps and limiting beliefs
    • Greater sense of perspective and hold on to emotional control and realistic positivity
    • Recognise own values, principles and motivators

     

    Digital Skills for Job Seekers 

    This programme provides invaluable skills to the clients and allows them access to a greater range of jobs and services online. Expected outcomes of the course:

    • Given real skills (word processing) to take ownership of the development of their CVs for current applications and to be able to adapt to make relevant to future applications
    • Given the confidence to use various templates in either Microsoft Office or other web based applications
    • Creating and adapting documents; an essential skill in job search
    • Using the cloud to store and access files – invaluable to learners who often do not have PCs at home
    • Becoming confident in the use of email / attaching documents / storing and retrieving files
    • Learning about web based tools to help identify their skills and the benefits of using the web during the application process
    • Using social media to promote themselves to employers
    • Generally building confidence in their own abilities which will further boost their chances of employment

     

      BSC H&S in Construction (CSCS)

    Clients will need to gain a Level 1 Award Health & Safety in a Construction Environment certificate and also pass the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test.

     

    This programme includes a tutor led course over 7 days, covering the following topics:

    • the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health & safety at work,
    • the Importance of safe manual handling in the work place,
    • the importance of working safely at height,
    • know the risks to health within a construction environment
    • know the importance of working around plant & equipment safely
    •  

    Clients will also use practice software to ensure that they have the knowledge to complete their CSCS operative exam.

     

    SIA Security

    This programme is aimed at clients wishing to work in the security sector. Employer day will identify the best option for clients and give a good experience of the different types of role in security.

    Clients will be working to achieve the following 3 qualifications:

    • HABC Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry (RQF)
    • HABC Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (RQF)
    • HABC Level 1 Certificate in Personal Development for Employability (RQF)Course content will be as follows:

    • Working in the Private Security Industry
    • Solving Work- Related Problems
    • Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
    • Building Working Relationships with Colleagues
    • Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
    • Building working relationships with Customers
    • Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
    • Communicating Solutions to Others

    *SIA Licence fee will not be paid for by the College*

     

    Warehousing and Storage

    This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to work in a warehousing business in the logistics sector. Job roles include warehouse assistant, warehouse operative, pickers and packers. They must be willing to work shifts, as part of a team and be good timekeepers.

    The 4 day course will include the following topics:

    • How to receive and store goods and materials – reporting procedures, quality checks, dealing with breakages and damages
    • How to process orders and dispatch goods – handling methods, packing and wrapping, translating orders, stock control
    • How to deliver effective customer service – customer expectations, understanding the stock range, satisfied customers, employer expectations
    • Health, safety and security legislation – Health & Safety at Work Act, risk assessment, safe lifting procedures, dealing with emergencies
    • How to be an effective worker – team working, effective communication, recognising and resolving conflict situations
    • Successful course completion will lead to a qualification in Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage Principles.

     

    Working as a CCTV Operator

     

    The CCTV course is designed for those wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a CCTV Operator in Public Space Surveillance. This qualification is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by the SIA, which regulates the private security industry.

    What topics will be covered during the course?

    • The key purposes of the Private Security Industry
    • The difference between civil and criminal law
    • The roles and responsibilities of each member of the CCTV team
    • The importance of accurate record-keeping
    • Equipment fault reporting procedures
    • Actions to take if a suspicious object is found in the CCTV control room
    • Assessing myself for a job and Personal behaviour for success

    Upon successful completion of examinations you will gain the Highfield Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry qualification.

     

    Level 2 -Food Safety in Catering

    This 1 day course designed for anyone working or seeking employment in the catering industry where food is prepared, cooked and handled. It is also useful for clients looking to work in the care environment where they will be handling food.

     

    Course 2 Career – Hospitality and Retail

    Become work ready with 6 qualifications to make you stand out to employers and from the crowd.

    By the end of the 3-week programme, you will have successfully completed

    • Level 1 Award in Personal Development
    • Level 1 Employability Certificate
    • Level 3 Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
    • Level 2 Certificate in Basic Food Hygiene
    • Level 1 Award in Customer Service
    • Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace

     

    In addition, this course will give you an opportunity to update your CV, brush up on your interview skills and get support to apply for your dream job! Delivered by industry experts with great links to local businesses, this course gives you the qualifications that employers are looking for in Gloucestershire now.

    Course 2 Career – Warehousing

    Become work ready with 5 qualifications to make you stand out to employers and from the crowd. By the end of the 3-week programme, you will have successfully completed:

    • Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage Principles
    • Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace

    • Level 1 Employability Certificate

     

    On successful completion of all elements we will also provide Fork Lift Novice Truck Training. In addition, this course will give you an opportunity to update your CV, brush up on your interview skills and get support to apply for your dream job!
