    These courses give you the opportunity to complete specialist studies which are directly relevant to roles within the Electrical/Electronic and in some cases Mechatronic sectors.

    The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is studied at Level 4 and is suitable for people who want to consolidate or improve their knowledge and who wish to gain a nationally recognised qualification. The HNC is generally a natural progression from BTEC Level 3, however other routes onto it are possible.

    The Higher National Diploma (HND) is a continuation from the HNC and is studied at Level 5. The HND is ideal for candidates who may already have knowledge of their chosen field but wish to work in higher level roles. This is also a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to CEng or IEng status.

    The Pearson HNC/D Electrical and Electronic Engineering Diploma courses, delivered in our well-equipped labs, are a great place to learn about a wide variety of subjects and topic areas. The subjects studied will give you a very good grounding and are delivered in both a theoretical and practical way. The equipment used in the labs is industry standard and most of the software/simulation packages used are the same as those used in industry.

    The Pearson Higher National Certificate (HNC) is suitable for people who are currently working in or hoping to work in a technical and/or managerial role in their chosen field. It is delivered as a part time day release course and takes 2 years to complete.

    You will study a number of modules (8 in total) at level 4 including Engineering Design, Engineering Maths, Electrical & Electronic Principles and Mechatronics.

    The Higher National Diploma (HND) is ideal for candidates who may already have knowledge of their chosen field but wish to progress. This well-established national qualification is set at an intermediate undergraduate level and places academic theory within a practical context. To achieve this qualification you will study 8 modules at level 5.

    Assessment will be carried out by a series of assignments, some developed by Pearson and some in house.

    Entry Criteria - additional information

    HNC

    You will have appropriate qualifications at level 3 – either a Diploma in Engineering with GCSE Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or Maths/Science at A level, or relevant industrial experience. There is a formal interview procedure where a member of the team will have the opportunity to ascertain your qualifications and suitability. You will also have the opportunity to see whether this course of study is right for you and exactly what it entails.

    HND

    Students would normally possess a Higher National Certificate in Engineering or relevant A levels with GCSEs (including Maths and Science). Students with HNC can use those units towards the HND where appropriate.
