Electronic and Mechanical Engineering

  • Students

Whether you are interested in computer aided design, manufacturing and production technologies, electrical and electronic engineering, robotics and control engineering, mechanical engineering or maintenance we have apprenticeships to get you where you need to be.

"Apprentices benefit from well-planned theory and practical workshops and from skills development in the workplace.” (Ofsted, 2013)

Students studying an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering can take full advantage of the College's state of the art workshops or electronics laboratories which are fully stocked with robotic CAD/CAM equipment, PLCs, electronics, engineering technology and pneumatic/hydraulics facilities. An Advanced Apprenticeship is of up to 42 month in duration. In the first year you will typically be at college two days per week, reducing to one day per week in the second year. In addition, you may need to attend block sessions for Maths, English and ICT. In the first year you will undertake units in Performing Engineering Operations - Milling, Turning etc. as well as the first half of a BTEC or City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma. In the second year you will complete your Diploma and all other aspects of your apprenticeship framework. During the time you are at college, you will need to complete portfolios of evidence and Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Thinking and Learning Skills, both of which are mandatory elements of the apprenticeship framework. In your final year, you will undertake an NVQ Extended Diploma in your chosen field, which will be assessed by one of our highly experienced staff at your place of work.
