Electrical and Electronic Engineering

  • Students

The BTEC L3 Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering provides you with a solid base on which to build in preparation for your exciting journey in becoming a qualified Engineer. It enables you to gain an industry recognised technical qualification and is designed to cater for both part time (generally apprentices) and full time students. It will usually take 2 years to achieve. It is equivalent to 1.5 or 3 A levels and accredits UCAS points. With your sound understanding of the technical aspects of Electrical and Electronic Engineering you can progress on to higher level qualifications such as an HNC/D and/or a University Degree. When achieved who knows where it may take you…..

The course is delivered in our well-equipped labs, a great place to learn.  The subjects studied will give you a very good grounding and are delivered in both a theoretical and practical way. The equipment used in the labs is industry standard and most of the software/simulation packages are the same as those used in industry.

You’ll study a range of topics including Electrical and Electronic Principles, Measurement and Testing, Maths for Engineers, Microelectronic Systems, Health and Safety, Principles and Applications of Electronic Circuits and Devices, and Programmable Logic Devices to name a few. If you are full time you will also gain some practical soldering skills and learn valuable circuit building and testing skills.

In the past we have had both Bronze and Silver award winners at World Skills UK in the Industrial Electronics competition

Will you be our first Gold medal winner?

The course is designed to give you a good, solid understanding of this exciting engineering discipline alongside the skills and knowledge you’ll need to progress onto further, more in-depth, higher level study and/or employment in the industry.

You will complete assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. We have fantastic links to local industries and will help you to gain useful work experience.

You'll love the chance to visit exhibitions such as World Skills UK, MACH and the Big Bank Fair UK. We also are able to visit local companies to see their state of the art facilities.

You can study at this level full time over one or two years or part time (one full day in college per week) over two years.
