Bench Joinery Intermediate Apprenticeship

    If you like making things and enjoy working with wood, this could be an ideal career for you. Carpenters and joiners make and install wooden fixtures and fittings as part of construction projects. They also undertake flooring projects such as real wood and laminate installations. The most common way to become a joiner is through an apprenticeship scheme. To get onto a scheme, you may need GCSEs in Maths, English and science.

    Training involved: · Practical training to develop knowledge in chosen occupational area · Employee Rights and Responsibilities · Personal Learning and Thinking Skills Qualifications you will gain · Level 2 Diploma and Level 2 NVQ Diploma in the construction trade listed below: o Carpentry and Joinery - Bench · Functional Skills: Level 1 English and Level 1 Mathematics As a joiner, you may work in one or more of the following areas: · Fabrication and assembly of staircases and fitted furniture · Fabrication of windows and doors, cupboards and shelving · Making and fitting interiors for shops, hotels, banks, offices and public buildings. To become a joiner you will need to have: · Good practical skills · An organised approach to work · An eye for detail · The ability to follow technical drawings and plans · Good Maths skills for measuring and working out angles · The ability to work as part of a team and unsupervised · The motivation to succeed within the industry · A willingness to learn and apply that learning in the workplace · The ability to complete the qualifications that are part of the apprenticeship · A willingness to communicate effectively with a range of people · The ability to problem solve, measure and use initiative Within the industry, salaries can range between £8000 and £28,000+ for an average 40-hour week. Steel toe capped shoes/boots and sturdy clothing to protect your body will be required.
