The course includes: • Fashion research, design, • Illustration pattern and garment manufacture • Methods to promote your designs and concepts. • Completing a portfolio of work and the famous catwalk show To become a fashion designer, you will need to have: • a good eye for colour, texture and shape • an understanding of the characteristics of fabrics and how they can be used • technical skills such as pattern cutting and sewing • the ability to spot and develop trends • drawing skills • the ability to use computer design packages • an understanding of production processes • the ability to solve problems • commercial awareness • the ability to work as part of a team. The Fashion industry currently presents an exciting area of development for Gloucestershire College. With the rise in popularity of fashion related TV programmes, including Mr Selfridge, Britain’s Next Top Model, Gok’s Fashion Fix and the Great British Sewing Bee, along with high profile events such as London, New York and Paris Fashion Week – there are many opportunities for our learners to enrich their learning opportunities alongside their fashion courses.
