This FREE online course explores the concept of behaviour that challenges, including why people behave the way they do and develop skills to manage challenging behaviour in an appropriate way. Learn the causes and impact of challenging behaviours, providing both an individual or an employer with skills to proactively manage challenges and support positive behaviour. Skills in this provide employment opportunities in Health and Social Care roles as well as providing suitable training for those working in Education.
Unit 1: Recognising and Understanding Behaviour that Challenges
Explore key terms related to behaviour that challenges, learn to recognise escalating behaviour, and understand why an individual may act in a challenging way.
Unit 2: Legislation and Support for Behaviour that Challenges
Gain insight into relevant legislation, best practices, and the types of support available for individuals affected by challenging behaviour.
Unit 3: Communication and Managing Behaviour that Challenges
Learn how promoting positive behaviour can prevent challenges, explore supportive strategies, and understand the role of communication in managing behaviour.
Unit 4: Managing Challenging Situations
Understand how your actions impact individuals displaying challenging behaviour, explore the consequences, and develop techniques to manage incidents effectively.
Unit 5: Providing Support After Challenging Incidents
Discover how to encourage individuals to reflect on their behaviour and learn about additional support available for those who demonstrate behaviour that challenges.
Approximate Course Duration, 8 -12 weeks (based on an average of 10-15 hours of self study per week)
Please note that while our online courses are designed to be flexible and allow you to study at a time and pace that fits around your existing commitments, there are set deadlines in place to support timely completion. You will also be expected to demonstrate consistent weekly progress.
This qualification can be completed on either a desk top or mobile phone. There are no specific software requirements needed apart from a stable internet connection. On successful completion you will receive an E-certificate.

This course is aimed at those 19 years (as at 31st of the academic year you are applying for) and over.
When applying for one of our free courses you will be asked to supply a copy of your ID, which can be either a passport, driving licence, birth certificate or national identity card. If you were born outside the EU, you must have proof of residency status and you will need to provide a copy for our records. If you have declared you are in receipt of benefits or low wage you will also need to provide us with evidence of this.
Please note whilst there is no limit to the number of free courses you can complete, you can only study one free course at a time.
In some instances, fully funded applications are subject to postcode eligibility or prior attainment.
