I chose an apprenticeship because I didn’t think university was right for me and I wanted to get straight on with learning on the job. My favourite part of being an apprentice was having that ongoing support at college and at work. Since completing my apprenticeship, Everyclick has taken me on as a full-time Social Media and Marketing Assistant. I would 100% recommend doing an apprenticeship to get you through the door.
Reach Your Potential
At Gloucestershire College we know that everyone has different strengths, interests and ambitions.
Some of our students are unsure of what they want to do, so studying full time is a great option as you can explore different types of work through the course and our student development programme.
But if you know what career you want to do, want to get heaps of work experience at the same time and get a head start on the career ladder, then an apprenticeship could be the right option for you post-GCSEs.
Fast Track Your Career with Gloucestershire’s Leading Apprenticeship Provider
Apprenticeships today aren’t just for trade jobs like plumbing and carpentry, although we offer apprenticeships in those too.
We work with over 650 of Gloucestershire’s best businesses to provide apprenticeships across 17 sectors.
You can achieve a certificate, diploma and even degree-level qualifications, making them a good alternative to university and full-time study.
A foot through the door
Young people who build links with organisations and professionals in the sectors that they are interested in can build a more effective network – offering a better chance of getting a recommendation they may need to get their foot on the employment ladder.
Can I apply at the open evening?
Yes! We’ll have Application Hubs set up on each campus and our friendly Student Services Team will be on hand to help with any queries you may have during the application process.
Am I able to park at the College?
Parking will be free at all of our campuses for you to park during the event.
Please note: If our Gloucester car park is full, there is the option to park in Gloucester Quays car park for a discounted rate of £1 from 6pm.
Will I be able to talk to someone about the support available and careers advice?
Gloucestershire College has a dedicated Advice Team who can give you free, impartial and confidential advice on choosing a career path and planning your studies to get there. The team will be available at each open evening to talk through the full range of options available to you. We’ll also have staff on hand to help you out with any queries about funding and travel.
Can I go to more than one open evening?
Of course. Different courses run from different campuses, so we would advise that you drop in to any campuses that you’re interested in studying at. Also, each of our campuses has a different layout and feel, so it is useful to see for yourself which campus would suit you best.
What if I’m interested in higher education courses?
We’ll have a higher education stand set up on the day where you can find out everything you need to know about studying for a HE course with us. You might also like to check out our Access to Higher Education courses – these are designed for anyone who’s looking to progress on to HE but has been out of education for more than a year and doesn’t currently have the grades needed to get on to a HE course.
I’m thinking about doing an apprenticeship, should I still come?
Definitely. We’ll have an Apprenticeship Zone with specialist staff who can talk you through all the options available and the current vacancies you can apply for. If you’re not sure you’re ready for apprenticeships, why not take a look at our traineeships – these are a great stepping-stone that will help you prepare for becoming an apprentice.
How long is the event?
Our Cheltenham and Gloucester open evenings run from 5.30pm until 8pm, and our Royal Forest of Dean open evening runs from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. Please feel free to come along at any point between these times.
I’m a mature student. Can I still come to this open evening?
Absolutely. Many of our courses are open to students of any age. If you’re aged 24 or over, you might like to ask about the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan which enables you to access financial support if you study a course that’s eligible. Have a chat with student services on the day to find out more.
