Training to support your business

At GC, we can support your business with motor vehicle apprenticeships, as well as the Award in MOT Testing Class 4 & 7.

Apprenticeships

Motor Vehicle apprenticeships deal with the repair and maintenance of all types of light vehicles. Whether your company is a dealership that focuses on a particular manufacturer, or an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles, we can support you with apprenticeship training for new or existing employees.

The Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is delivered in the workplace with 1 day per week in college. Apprentices will work in a service technician role, carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs, as well as identifying and reporting faults.

The Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is delivered in the workplace with 1 day per week in college in the first year, and entirely in the workplace during the second year. Apprentices will learn about more complex faults and how to identify and repair them, with the opportunity to take some responsibility for the workshop and other team members.

Award in MOT Testing Class 4 & 7

The Award in MOT Testing Class 4 & 7 has been developed with DVSA/VOSA to give learners the knowledge and skills required to perform the MOT Test Routine. After completing this course, the DVSA will need to observe you complete a VT8 demo MOT test, before you can receive your tester’s licence and gain your MOT qualification.

Free Recruitment Service

We offer a free of charge recruitment service to help you find the right apprentice for your business. We will advertise your vacancy if required, interview applicants and provide you with a shortlist to make the final decision.

We are also hosting a free recruitment event on Wednesday 20 March, where employers that are taking on an apprentice with Gloucestershire College can host a stand and speak to young people looking for apprenticeship vacancies; at last year’s event over 600 people attended. For more

Funding

Our experts can support you to make the most of available funding. If your business has fewer than 50 employees, you will receive a £1000 incentive payment for each 16-18 year old apprentice that you take on. If you pay the apprenticeship levy, we can support you to get the most out of the levy.  If you don’t pay the apprenticeship levy, you will need to pay 10% towards the cost of training and assessing your apprentice, with the government paying the remaining 90%
