Fast Track your Career
This March our Gloucester Campus will be hosting employers from a wide range of industries across the county looking to recruit apprentices.
In six industry zones you can explore apprenticeships and degree level apprenticeships by speaking directly to the employers who’ll deliver them. You can talk to them about the opportunities on offer, what the job will involve and the pay you can expect to receive, as well as making a great first-impression to increase your chances of getting an interview should you go on to apply.
Be introduced to the world of apprenticeships by our very own apprenticeship team, our experts will inform you about the types of apprenticeships available, the industries you could work in and the exciting career paths they can lead on to.
Meet our current apprentices who will share their experiences of everyday apprentice life – you’ll discover what kind of projects they have been working on and why they decided an apprenticeship was right for them.
You can even apply for live apprenticeship vacancies on the night.
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a great way to gain a new qualification while getting experience and earning money.
Apprenticeships today aren’t just for trade jobs like plumbing and carpentry, although we offer apprenticeships for those too. You can achieve a certificate, diploma, and even a degree level qualification, making them a good alternative to university and full-time study.
You’ll spend most of your time with an employer, and depending on the apprenticeship, you’ll spend some time at college to complete your learning.
Why do an apprenticeship?
Young people who build links with organisations and professionals in the sectors that they are interested in can build a more effective network – offering a better chance of getting a recommendation that they may need to get their foot on the employment ladder.
In fact, 9 out of 10 Gloucestershire College apprentices stay with their employer after they’ve completed an apprenticeship and nearly all* of them were given promotions, pay rises, benefit packages or progressed onto a higher level of qualification.

Can I apply at the Apprenticeship Information Evening?
Yes! You can either apply for a live vacancy, or if you’re not sure what apprenticeship you want to do yet, we’ll have Application Hubs set up on each campus and our friendly Student Services Team will be on hand to help with any queries you may have during the application process.
Will I be able to talk to someone about apprenticeships and/or get career advice?
Gloucestershire College has a dedicated Advice Team who can give you free, impartial and confidential advice on choosing a career path and planning your studies to get there. The team will be available to talk through the full range of options available to you.
What apprenticeship levels are available?
There are a few types of apprenticeship on offer that can give you a qualification all the way up to degree level. You can study Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships, which are Level 2 and Level 3 equivalent respectively.
Higher apprenticeships range from Level 4, equivalent to a Higher National Certificate (HNC), to Level 6, equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and, similar to intermediate and advanced apprenticeships, combine on-the-job training with studying towards a degree-level qualification. Higher apprentices can see increased earnings of around £150,000 over their lifetime.
How long is the event?
Feel free to arrive anytime between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. The last talk available from the apprenticeship team to explain apprenticeships is at 6.15pm.
Am I able to park at the College
Parking is free at the Gloucester Campus but spaces are limited. If the campus car park is full, the Gloucester Docks car park is free after 6pm and Gloucester Quays car park is just £2 for two hours after 6pm. Both carparks are a just a 5 minute walk away from the College.
Please check their websites before you travel in case there have been any changes to the tariff.
I’m thinking about doing a full time course, should I still come?
Definitely. When you’re exploring your education options it’s important to think about what further qualifications and career paths that can lead onto. We have apprenticeships on offer all the way up to degree level. So even if you think you’re not ready for an apprenticeship right now, you might want to consider an apprenticeship for a later, higher level study, as it can be a great way to get into a good company and onto the career ladder. We’ll have the GC Advice Team at the event who can talk through long-term progression and career paths with you.
I’m a mature student, can I still come?
Absolutely. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 who meets the entry requirements. Entry requirements vary depending on the level of the apprenticeship.
