Summary:

To assist in the bakery and cafe situated in the village of Longhope.

As a cooperative enterprise all staff at The Forest Bakehouse are given the opportunity to learn and develop skills in all aspects of the business.

An apprentice will:

  • Enjoy and have a passion for good quality food and already have an interest in cooking and baking.
  • Be keen to learn the skills involved in making long fermentation sourdough breads, long fermentation laminated pastry goods, sweet and savoury tarts and flans and high quality cakes and bakes.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and enjoy communicating the ethos of the bakehouse with customers and the local community.
  • Be confident in maths in order to learn all aspects of handling money in the bakehouse as well as being able to accurately weigh out ingredients and follow recipes.
  • Have confidence in using IT systems. ( ordering, invoicing and accounts, social media).
  • Learn principles of Food Safety in food preparation and food service.
  • Be willing to occasionally attend country markets.
  • Be willing to assist with bakehouse events and bakery courses.

  • A keen interest in food, cookery or baking.

  • Someone who enjoys being part of a team, who thrives in a busy environment willingness to learn a wide range of new skills and can embrace and adapt to a varied working day/week.

Qualifications required

3 GCSE grades A-D including English and Mathematics or equivalent.

The Forest Bakehouse produces and retails high quality hand crafted organic sourdough and yeasted breads from its premises in Longhope village. We are a community bakehouse supplying the locality with traditionally made healthy and additive free bread, croissants and sweet goods. Customers can also enjoy hot drinks and snacks at the bakehouse.
